Acupuncture and Tuina are 2 of the branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a complete system of medicine that has been developed and refined in China for over 2000 years. Today, acupuncture and Tuina are still used extensively in the East for a wide variety of conditions. They continue to be amongst the main treatment methods in Chinese hospitals, alongside Western medicine.
In the West, acupuncture is increasingly gaining recognition, as more and more clinical trials are proving its effectiveness. It is officially recognised by the NHS, which describes it as a non-invasive form of treatment with no side-effects, and is also included in the NICE guidelines as a recommended treatment for chronic lower back pain .
Tuina is as yet a little known therapy outside of China. It can be used as a therapy in its own right, characterised by robust soft tissue work based on the principles of TCM. If used alongside acupuncture, it can greatly increase the effectiveness of treatments.
In the UK , many acupuncturists hold a BSc in Acupuncture, showing they have done extensive training in this field. They strictly use disposable needles to ensure hygiene and safety.
"It's about two weeks now since my final session with Conny, and my arm continues to be free of pain, nor does it stiffen after repetitive movements. So thank you again Conny." A.P., elbow tendinitis
